Hi Greg

At my employer we upgraded one of our Internet facing 7200s to 12.4(25) and had it crash twice in around 45mins. Also had major issues with it bringing up BGP sessions running password protection to 3 out of 5 peers that ran it.

Ended up doing a stack of dumps for TAC but gave in and rolled back to 12.4(23). We also bailed on the idea of doing our 2801/21/51 fleet until we had an opportunity to gain lab time to test it before deployment anywhere.

Rossco

Hi All,

Is anyone on AUSNOG running this on any of their Cisco 2800/7200's?

We upgraded one of our borders to this last week, and since then have been
having constant issues.

eg:

bdr1.per uptime is 24 minutes
System returned to ROM by error - a Software forced crash, PC 0x4007C19C at
13:36:51 UTC Tue May 5 2009

We have submitted a TAC case, but have yet to hear a resolution. We were
about to push this out to about 10 2811's and a bunch more 720(4/6)vxr's but
at this stage are holding off....

Cheers,

Greg

National Broadband Network: 21st century broadband
There are some links on this webpage which may go to external websites for which the Department is not responsible.
The Government has announced it will establish a new company that will invest up to $43 billion over eight years to build and operate a National Broadband Network delivering superfast broadband to Australian homes and workplaces.
To turn its vision into action the Government will immediately:

* establish a company to build and operate the network and make an initial investment of $4.7 billion in the network
* commence an implementation study to determine the company's operating arrangements, detailed network design and ways to attract private sector investment
* fast-track negotiations with the Tasmanian Government, as suggested by the Panel of Experts, to build upon its National Broadband Network proposal to begin the rollout a FTTP network and next generation wireless services in Tasmania as early as July
* implement measures to address backhaul 'black spots' through the timely rollout of fibre optic transmission links connecting cities, major regional centres and rural towns - delivering improvements to telecommunication services in the short term
* progress legislative changes that will govern the national broadband network company and facilitate the rollout of FTTP networks, including requiring use of fibre optic technology in future greenfield developments, and
* commence a consultative process on necessary changes to the existing telecommunications regulatory regime.

The Government terminated the Request for Proposals (RFP) process on 7 April 2009, on the basis of advice from the independent Panel of Experts that none of the national proposals offered value for money. The Panel noted the rapid deterioration of the global economy had a significant impact on the process. Refer to the extract from the evaluation report for more information.

Exchange hardware failure.
They were talking about flying in equipment.

All our services went down 1:40am AEST.
Service restored at 11:37am AEST.

Took down everything, including NT Govt.
I am waiting for a detailed report on what happened.

We've seen similar outages before, and they were previously related to power at the exchange.

Not sure if it is well known, but it seems that Google is now Peering with WAIX. (I think they have been Peering with PIPE for some time now also)

As we have a 100mbps peer with WAIX, and our Staff do a significant amount of traffic to Google (Google Maps specifically) this is awesome news for us and our external bandwidth costs. I’m sure that other smaller organisations are excited by this, and even some of the bigger ones who currently push Google traffic (such as Youtube etc) across to the country.

Greg
